How attack power is calculated in Pikmin Bloom

A Pikmin's attack power is a plain sum: a base value for its type, plus a bonus for every advantage it has. Add up each Pikmin in your squad and you have the squad's attack power, which is what decides how fast a mushroom falls.

The formula

Six terms, all added together. Tap a term to jump to its table.

Attack power=Base power+Maturity+Decor+Friendship+Event decor+Type matchup

Base power
What the Pikmin's type is worth before any bonus.
Maturity
How grown its sprout is, from bare through to Flower of the Month.
Decor
A flat bonus if it is a Decor Pikmin.
Friendship
How many hearts you have earned with it.
Event decor
Extra damage while a Decor Pikmin event is running.
Type matchup
How well its colour suits the mushroom it is attacking.

Base power by Pikmin type

Purple Pikmin hit hardest before bonuses; White, Winged and Ice hit softest. This is the only part of the sum you cannot change.

Maturity

Growing a Pikmin's sprout adds one point per stage. It is small per Pikmin, but it applies to every Pikmin in the squad.

Decor Pikmin

A Decor Pikmin — one wearing an item it picked up from a location — adds a flat +4, on top of everything else. Ordinary Pikmin get nothing here.

Friendship

Hearts are earned by taking a Pikmin on walks and expeditions. The first four red hearts add one point each; yellow hearts are worth far more, and a Pikmin at four yellow hearts is the single biggest bonus most squads can reach.

Event decor

During a Decor Pikmin event, Pikmin wearing the featured decor deal extra damage. Against ordinary mushrooms the bonus is modest and the same either way; against the event's own mushroom it dwarfs everything else in the formula.

Type matchup

Against a regular mushroom, any Pikmin can do damage — the matchup only decides the bonus. Matching the mushroom's colour is worth +12; most other pairings give a small bonus; some give nothing at all, which is not the same as dealing no damage.

Special mushrooms are different

A special (element) mushroom can only be damaged by one type of Pikmin. The right type gets +100; every other Pikmin in your squad deals zero, no matter how grown or how friendly.

  • Fire needs Red Pikmin
  • Water needs Blue Pikmin
  • Electric needs Yellow Pikmin
  • Poisonous needs White Pikmin
  • Crystal needs Rock Pikmin

Worked examples

The same arithmetic our calculator runs, on four squads worth understanding. These numbers are generated from the tables above, so they cannot drift out of date.

Flower Rock Pikmin vs a Gray mushroom

5base+3Flower+12colour match=20

The ordinary good case: the colours match, so the matchup bonus is the largest one a regular mushroom offers.

Flower Blue Pikmin vs a Red mushroom

3base+3Flower+0no matchup bonus=6

No matchup bonus, but still a real contribution. A Pikmin like this is not wasted against a regular mushroom — it simply earns nothing extra.

Flower Decor Rock Pikmin vs a Crystal mushroom

5base+3Flower+4Decor+3friendship (3 hearts)+100correct type=115

Bonuses stack. The correct type against a special mushroom is worth more than everything else in the sum put together.

Flower of the Month Purple Pikmin vs a Crystal mushroom

0 — this Pikmin cannot damage this mushroom at all.

The trap. This is the most powerful Pikmin in the game, fully grown, and it contributes nothing — the wrong type against a special mushroom deals zero, not 'less'.
