How Pikmin Bloom star ratings work
A mushroom battle is scored out of four stars, and the score is decided by one thing: how quickly the mushroom goes down. Attack power and completion time are not two requirements β they are the same requirement, written two ways.
The equation
How long a battle takes is fixed by the mushroom's health and the combined attack power thrown at it.
time in seconds = health Γ· total attack Γ 100
Rearranged, that gives the attack a time limit demands: attack = health Γ· time Γ 100.
That is why our calculators can show you an attack number and a star rating from the same input. There is no separate star formula to look up β hit the attack, and the time follows.
The four tiers
One star is awarded for finishing at all. The other three each carry a completion-time limit, and a larger reward bonus.

No attack column here on purpose: the attack a tier needs depends on the mushroom's health, so it differs for every mushroom. Each mushroom's reference page carries its own thresholds, worked out from the times above.
Why joining late costs you stars
Someone who joins a battle already in progress adds attack power, but they cannot give back the time that has already elapsed. A group that starts together and a group that trickles in can field identical Pikmin and finish in very different times β which is why coordinating the start is worth more than one extra player.
What is not verified
The step from that one mushroom to every other mushroom is a hypothesis, and we have not been able to confirm it.
Everything above rests on a single fully-numeric published battle: a small Purple mushroom with 93,900 health, whose four thresholds were recorded in both attack and time.

The derived column is health Γ· the published attack Γ 100. It reproduces every published time to the second or within one second β the residue is rounding, since the published attack thresholds are whole numbers. That match is what makes attack and time one equation rather than two coincidences.
The three time limits are assumed to be the same for every mushroom
We take the times derived above and apply them to every mushroom, dividing each one's health by them to get its attack thresholds. That works if the time limits are a property of the battle system rather than of that particular Purple mushroom. Nobody has published a second fully-numeric example to check it against.
What would settle it
One battle on a different mushroom β a different type and a different size, say a large Red or a normal Fire β with both its attack thresholds and its time limits recorded. If the same three time limits reproduce its thresholds, the model holds and this section becomes a derivation. If they do not, the thresholds are per-mushroom, must be tabulated one at a time, and every star figure on this site is wrong by an unknown margin.
Until then, every star rating and threshold we show is labelled an estimate. That label is not hedging: it marks the exact place where a published number stops and our inference starts.
